Nyck de Vries is in absolute top form for the first weekend of the new Formula E season. The Dutchman won the opening race on Friday and took pole position for race number two a day later. This race in Saudi Arabia will be held later in the day.

Not happy

A pole is usually reason for a (modest) party. But there was no question of a jubilant De Vries. On the contrary, immediately after qualifying the Fries had a bad feeling about his last lap. "I'm a bit disappointed about my last lap," said De Vries. "I lost a bit of momentum and then turn sixteen was not great. Honestly, I'm glad it was enough because I think we really deserved it. We were the fastest throughout the session. But I'm not happy with my personal performance during the last run. "

The final of qualifying was a duel between Mercedes EQ (with De Vries) and Venturi, which took second place with Edoardo Mortara. The teams were tipped as the two top teams prior to the season. Was this a first sign that this is really the case? "It looks like it," says de Vries. "We have a strong package this weekend, but I am sure this is just the beginning. I believe the competition is extremely strong throughout the season. We are definitely going to fight with more teams and drivers than just Venturi."
