Jost Capito is rubbing his hands with the recruitment of Alexander Albon. The Williams team boss saw in the British driver from the outset the perfect candidate to replace the departure of George Russell. According to Capito the arrival of Albon fits exactly into what Williams has in mind.

Comparison with Verstappen

Capito explained in conversation with GP Racing that the arrival of Albon was the logical choice for Williams. Indeed, according to the German, as a team you always have to look at what situation you are in. "I think if we had Max Verstappen it would have been the right driver at the wrong time," said Capito. Albon possesses exactly the profile Williams were looking for.

The 63-year-old top man understands all too well that a large number of the current Formula 1 drivers are not feasible for Williams, because the British formation has underperformed in recent years. The group to choose from is therefore quite small and that is exactly why Capito is so happy with the capture of Albon.

Albon the perfect choice

Capito explained that for 2022 Williams needs a driver who is not yet at the peak of his career but who brings with him certain experience, so that he gets the respect of the team. A rookie was therefore not really an option for Williams, because this year with the new regulations it wants to immediately take big steps towards the midfield. Training a rookie and letting him get used to it does not fit in with that.

Albon on the other hand knows the ins and outs of Formula 1. He has 38 Grands Prix behind his name and was on the podium twice. Moreover, as a test and reserve driver, he has experienced everything within Red Bull Racing very closely over the past year, something that he believes has been very valuable.
