Unlike in previous years, Mercedes are taking the lead in terms of previews of the new Formula 1 car in the run-up to the 2022 season. On Sunday, the German racing stable showed a concept version of the new car, with a striking detail: the car is not silver, but black.

No return of the Silver Arrows after all?

The Mercedes cars were black in 2020 and 2021 to support the Black Lives Matter movement. It was previously reported that Mercedes, also known as "the Silver Arrows," would return to the original silver livery for the 2022 season. Lewis Hamilton indicated last year that he would have nothing against a return of the Silver Arrows.

However, in the concept version of the new car, which the team shared on social media, the car is still black. This does not mean that the same color scheme will be retained for the new Formula One season. Also Ferrari would show a different color at the presentation than what the team will start with in Bahrain, so it is possible that this is also the case with Mercedes.
