George Russell reveals that the small victories, such as getting to Q2 with the 2020 Williams and his first points with the team in 2021, only make him hungrier for more. The young Brit looks back on his time at Williams and takes the lessons he learned there to Mercedes.

Russell makes the most of tricky situations

Russell will make the long-awaited switch from Williams to Mercedes in 2022. In his Williams days, the 2018 Formula 2 champion drove mostly at the back of the field with a few points finishes and an unexpected podium in the prematurely flagged 2021 Belgian Grand Prix. The Briton hopes to move up another notch with Mercedes in 2022 and wants to fight for the world championship.

Russell reveals that he did not find it difficult to go from victories in Formula 2 to P19 in Formula 1 in 2019. He says he had a certain mindset and knew there was little he could do to change the particularly slow Williams of that year. Russell says he doesn't focus on things he can't change, but instead tries to make the most of difficult situations.

From rearguard to world champion

"Obviously I want to be a winner, I want to be a world champion and we spent the whole time at the back of the grid. 2021 was a stronger year but it was never enough," Russell looks back at his Williams time at Crash.net.

In 2022, Russell will be driving on the other side of the grid. Mercedes is reigning constructors' champion and he has seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton as his teammate.
