Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are expected to fight for the world title again next season. However, both drivers will also have to deal with the qualities of George Russell, Anthony Davidson tells the German RTL.

The newcomer to Mercedes was part of the Williams team last year, but Russell did so well that Mercedes decided to bring him in as a replacement for Valtteri Bottas. Although many expect that Russell will need a season to get used to his new team, Davidson believes he will be there right away.

Indeed, the former Formula 1 driver notes that Russell will bring a lot of enthusiasm to his new team. "It's great to see how much energy he has," Davidson stressed. "He now has the chance to drive a car that can compete at the front with Hamilton, the best in the business, as the benchmark."

Hamilton threatens to leave Formula 1

For now, however, it remains to be seen whether Hamilton will be back on the track this year. Since the last race in Abu Dhabi, in which he had to give up the world title to Verstappen, the Briton hasn't publicly said anything regarding last season or his future in the sport. According to Mercedes, Hamilton doubts whether he wants to continue in Formula 1, leaving the team in uncertainty.
