Following the departure of Otmar Szafnauer as Aston Martin's team principal, the team had to look for a replacement. On Friday, the team of Lawrence Stroll announced Szafnauer's successor. Mike Krack has been appointed as the new team boss.

Krack comes over from BMW

"It is a thrill and an honor to have been appointed team principal of Aston Martin," Krack revealed in a press release from the team. "Aston Martin is one of the world's greatest car brands, and that I have been asked to take a leading role in achieving the success in Formula One that such an illustrious name so richly deserves is a challenge I am eager to take on with energy and enthusiasm."

Krack previously worked at BMW where he headed the German brand's motorsport division. In that role he was in charge of BMW's Formula E, GT and IMSA programs, as well as the planned expansion into the new LMDh formula for IMSA & WEC, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Krack reunited with Vettel

Formula One is not new to Krack. He previously worked for Sauber. "I have been working in motorsport for over 20 years and worked with Sebastian Vettel in Formula 1 in 2006 and 2007 when I was an engineer at BMW-Sauber and he was the team's test driver. I have enormous respect for his speed and ability, and it will be fantastic to be reunited with him."

He is also looking forward to working with Lance Stroll. "He is also a very fast and talented driver, with a hundred Grands Prix starts to his name, and I am very much looking forward to working closely with him."

Aston Martin impresses

Krack reveals he is impressed with the Silverstone-based team. "It's full of talented people and real racers. That racer culture and values are what it takes to succeed in motorsport. I know that and my new colleagues know that too. We will work incredibly hard. We want to win. Together we will."
