Max Verstappen won his first world title at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. While Red Bull Racing celebrated this achievement, Mercedes lodged a protest against a decision by the race stewards. Verstappen was not the least bit grumpy about it.
It was certainly not the first time that one of the top teams knocked on the door of the race stewards after the race to talk about a moment in the GP. Verstappen was not surprised that his competitor took action again. According to the German racing team, the stewards had not acted properly after bringing the safety car off the track.
When Verstappen won the world title because of this decision, the anger of Mercedes was revealed. Verstappen was not at all worried at the time, he told CNN. "I think it's a big part of the whole season. It's been already like that a few times. It is what it is sometimes. That's racing sometimes. For me, nothing really changed."
Battle between Verstappen and Hamilton
Verstappen had to wait a long time to win the world title. The Dutchman had been part of the Red Bull team since 2016, but failed to compete with Hamilton yearly. This season, he was level with his rival.
