Jos Verstappen very proud: 'He has a special feeling in the car'

Jos Verstappen tells David Coulthard in the interview with CarNext.com that he feels that Max Verstappen is always the fastest in the qualifying sessions. In the past his father really had to encourage him to drive faster, but now the Dutchman gets everything out of the car.
Verstappen has proven himself to be a true champion this year. Despite setbacks, he always managed to do what was needed in the next qualifying and race. When asked what his favourite moment of the past season was, Verstappen senior had a hard time choosing. In the end he mentions the qualifying laps in Q3 with the laps in Jeddah and Abu Dhabi being his favourites. "He has such a special feeling in the car. It's incredible."
Still, the races and certainly the qualifying rounds have been a challenge for the Dutchman. Many things go through his head during a race, the Red Bull Racing driver admits. By repeating not to give up he manages to fight until the last corner of the final lap. His father also played a big part in this mentality, as he sometimes even jumped on the track to make sure Max was going faster. The former Formula 1 driver laughingly admits it's true: "I even did that in Formula 3 and sometimes it helped."
'No longer needed'
Verstappen senior admits that the encouragement he used to do along the kart track is no longer necessary. It's now so ingrained in his mind after all these years, that his father doesn't have to tell him anymore. His Formula 3 career has taught him how to qualify and as a result he is now the fastest man during those sessions, according to his father: "He is now the man to beat."
