Max Verstappen has not only impressed Dutch sports fans this season, but the UK is also under the spell of the driver's talent. This earned him a nomination this month for the BBC's 'World Star of the Year' award.

The Dutchman showed his qualities once again during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Verstappen had an interesting battle with Hamilton throughout the race but eventually had to give up victory to his rival. However, he still has the most victories this season. Moreover, he drove the most laps at the head of the field.

It was therefore clear to the English broadcaster that Verstappen deserved the sports award. He will hear on Sunday 19 December, when the sports gala is scheduled, whether he has won. His competitors are boxer Saúl Canelo Álvarez, jockey Rachael Blackmore, American footballer Tom Brady, tennis player Novak Djokovic and athlete Elaine Thompson-Herah.

Verstappen could succeed Hamilton

Victory will depend on Verstappen capturing the world title in Abu Dhabi this weekend. Should the Dutchman win the title, it would be an interesting fact. Hamilton was the winner of the 2020 World Championship, so Verstappen could succeed him.
