Max Verstappen remains very calm under great pressure in his first title fight in Formula 1. At the Weekend Warm-Up, he explains to Will Buxton how he managed to stay so calm.

First title fight

Many used to wonder how Verstappen would hold up in a title fight. In the past, the Dutchman has been prone to outbursts and emotional reactions. In a title fight, however, the focus must be entirely on one's own performance and Verstappen has already got that right.

''It's very simple. I know everyone is asking questions here (in the box for the press moments), but when I leave this I don't think about it anymore. It's not necessary and you put unnecessary thoughts in your head. I'm just enjoying the racing, looking forward to the weekend and we're trying to develop the car as best we can to be the best version of ourselves. Then we'll see if that's good enough.''

Verstappen is focused

According to Verstappen, one should also not make it more complicated than it is. ''I've always said we shouldn't make things harder than they are. I know how to go fast and the team always tries to give me the best possible car. That's all you have control over, the rest is not up to me.''

''It works for me with positive and negative things to not pay much attention to it. That works for me and so it doesn't mean that will work for everyone. However, that's the way I do it and how I was brought up'', concludes the Formula One championship leader.
