It is a very busy period for Nyck de Vries. This week he is the reigning World Champion and Mercedes will be testing in Formula E. Next weekend he will be Mercedes F1's reserve driver in Saudi Arabia and next week he will be testing an IndyCar in America.

Stay involved

What is certain is that De Vries will defend his title in Formula E. In an exclusive interview with GPblog he gave a further insight into his programme for next year, which he says is 'comparable' with the current season. A key component may be a renewed role as a reserve driver with Mercedes in Formula 1.

"I don't know yet," said De Vries when asked if he will stay on. He indicated he definitely wants to continue. "Sure, it's very good to stay involved with a team like Mercedes and function in it. So definitely."

In recent months De Vries has often been linked with a seat at Williams and Alfa Romeo. In the end these teams chose respectively Alexander Albon and Guanyu Zhou.

"I feel especially honoured that I was talked about, that my name was mentioned and that praiseworthy things were said about me," said De Vries.

"Of course, it's always rumors and speculation. I was especially grateful that my name was going around in the carousel. Yes, what happened after that, what the decisions were, that's beyond me. In the end I can only do my best on the track and make sure I perform as good as possible there. I don't have any more influence than that."
