Twenty races done: this is the difference between Verstappen and Hamilton?
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are very much matched, that much is clear after 20 of the 22 races. Sometimes Verstappen wins, sometimes Hamilton. In fact, they are never far apart.
Across America
ESPN has calculated how small the difference is between both contenders. The American tv channel calculates that after 20 races and about 6055 kilometers of racing, there is only a tiny advantage for Verstappen. If all times are counted together, Verstappen would be only 28.62 seconds ahead. According to the Americans that is equivalent to driving from Miami to San Francisco and with less than half a minute Verstappen would arrive earlier.
If you combined the races that both Max and Lewis have completed this season (3,000 miles) the time difference between them would only be 28.62 seconds in favor of Max

Like racing from Miami to San Francisco and being separated by half a minute.

It is not entirely clear how ESPN calculated the difference in races where Verstappen did not finish the race and his competitor did. That happened at Silverstone and Baku.
